Gerry started 2008 with an adventurous trip to Namibia
to choreograph and train a group of young people. This was in collaboration
with The Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO). This is a Namibian Welfare
Organisation aiming at decreasing the impact of HIV/AIDS among young people,
using Arts (both performing and visual) as a tool to create social awareness.
It also trains young people and equips them with new skills.

Extended
Play
Dance
Improvisation Workshop
Saturday Jan 5th 2008
Huddersfield Art Gallery
In Collaboration with the sound installation by Janek Schaefer
This was a unique opportunity to improvise alongside a
sound installation that is triggered by movement in the space.
Janek Schaefer’s ‘Extended Play…a triptych
for the children of war’ is an uplifting and enveloping mass of
sound. A trio of turntables play a score for piano, cello and violin adapted
from music transmitted in Warsaw during world war two.
Dance was introduced in the space in relation to the sound
and ideas of the work. Improvisational scores were given as well as an
opportunity to create movement material from the actual score.
